One of the most stressful questions a new parent confronts is, “Who’s going to take care of my baby when I go back to work?”
Figuring out the answer to that question is often not easy. More than 1,000 parents were surveyed nationwide about their child care experiences; a third reported difficulty finding care.
Searching far and wide, finding little
Shibani Bedi, a new mother who lives in Chandigarh, knows well the feeling of desperation that can come with the search for safe, quality infant care.
She had a hard deadline — 16 weeks after her baby was born her maternity leave would end and she would have to return to her job at a nonprofit that serves homeless and low-income women. So she and her husband started looking for child care early, only a few months into her pregnancy.
They had a hard time looking for options in the city, as no one had heard of quality baby care services in the city. They wanted to go for someone who belonged to the local areas as it is easier to communicate with them, there is no problem of arranging accommodation for them, It’s easier to do a background check on them, someone else can always be contacted regarding their absence.
They struggled to lock onto someone and almost booked a full-time nanny from a well-renowned agency in Kolkata. They were not happy about this decision as they were about to spend almost half of their monthly income on the nanny, not to forget the hefty commission charged by the agency. So they decided to wait.
Shibani persuaded her mother to drive down from Delhi to take care of baby Simran for a few days. But as her mother was a school teacher, she couldn’t afford to take leave for more than 3-4 days.
Ultimately they resorted to websites on the Internet and came across Youcare, they were enthralled to know that this company offered baby care services exactly suiting their need and budget. Hence they went about shortlisting caregivers matching their requirement from over 200 caregivers listed at their site, conducting a few interviews, selected the best fit, negotiated the salary of the babysitter and ended up getting a fairly experienced professional for a nominal salary. Youcare is frequently solving many such problems and have made a mark in Chandigarh Tri-city area since its inception last year, they have recently extended their services till Pinjore & Ludhiana.
As more families turn nuclear and juggle between ambitions and responsibilities, startups like YouCare are helping families find and hire trained professionals in a price range affordable to young parents and help working professionals(caregivers) gain experience and work opportunities at a price they desire to.
